On the computer in Mitte's Backpacker hostel in Berlin. It's pretty cool, but the german keyboard is making it slow, which is unfortunate because i only have half an hour. Anna and I went on a pub crawl last night that ended up losing us in far east berlin, where i was slightly accosted by a fairly drunk guy on the street who got really close to me and told me repeatedly that I was 'zayer shoen' and kind of caressed my arm. He left me alone after that, but I was really uncomfortable and we ended up finding a taxi to take us back to the hostel (after meeting a couple of other guys from the pub crawl who were escorting their very drunk friend back and we ended up in two S bahn stations for a combined time of an hour at 3am). The bar crawl was good before that though, as we went to a couple of typical bars (and Anna and I did an absinthe shot each) then this large bar/late night complex that was very Soviet-underground and kind of seedy but also had a large artist colony type of place on the third floor of this grafitti-covered staircase. I bought three posters: very pop, berlin collages.
I was so glad to get in that taxi, though, and the cab driver played the most amazing radio station with cool covers of Sound of Silence (techno) and Tainted Love (reggae), and the cabbie explained why so many streets seem french-sounding: the huguenots settled the area way back when. who knew?
Todaz, I am hoping to do a biking tour of berlin, but anna is not up yet, so that's up in the air. I don't know what we'll do until 8pm tomorrow before we get on the overnight train to Zurich. I'm actively not going to worry about it.
Troy, good luck with go down moses, just get through the story about the moonshiner, and it gets better/easier.
And mary, sure let Susan and Emily know about the blog.
I love you all and miss you.

Happy times, feeling timeless; the Grand Tour continues. I discovered "What Happens in Amsterdam..." doesn't necessarily stay in Amsterdam. Enjoy Zurich. L, M

Glad to see you persevered to the seedy club with the art colony. Inspiration for local artist I'm sure since you appreciated the reminisce of art in the staircase and got some very cool posters.
Do they post flyers of local bands in the clubs? If they do it would make a nice back drop for a photo,hint.hint.Also, any chance of taking photos of weird fashion?
Are you collecting matches from where you go? Be Be did, their cool to have for just about anything, like having something physical from where you were to trigger memories for creative writing and such. Do they have fabric shops ? Your Mom could make a quilt for you from bits and pieces of your grand tour.Just a thought.
